State Notebooks!

The 4th graders are in the process of completing State Notebooks. They will be working on this for 4 weeks learning all about the state that they have chosen. After the notebook is compiled, then they will present to the class some of the interesting facts that they have learned and studied about their state.

Caterpillars to Butterflies

It took only 4 weeks but shortly after Spring Break the caterpillars changed into butterflies.

They had to stay in the cage for 1 week before they were able to be released. They sucked on orange slices and sugar water while they waited to be released.

Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Mathes, Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grade were able to watch the butterflies being released.

They are so pretty!! It was a great experience for the students to see the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly!

Chapel Thursdays at FBS

Every Thursday the students gather for Chapel. This is a time where the students share with the other classes the memory verses that they have learned throughout the week. Above is a picture of the 5th/6th graders leading praise time.

Reading Time is Always Fun!

The students often wait with anticipation until the next time they get to hear a story. They have read books such as Diary of a Whimpy Kid and other notable Newberry Award Authors!

Invention of Coca Cola

Some interesting facts about Coke:

Coca-Cola is one of the most popular soft drinks in the world. In fact, over one billion cans of Coca-Cola are consumed every day. But this magical drink can be used in many more ways than just an ordinary cold refreshment.

1.Coca Cola was first invented by a pharmacist name John Pemberton as a medicine to cure headaches.

2.Coca-Cola is called “Coca-Cola” because of the original ingredients used in the medicine, Coca leaves and Kola seeds. Wine was also added in place of sugar similar to the coke we drink today.

3.When Mentos is added to Coca-Cola, the carbon dioxide in the coke will be rapidly released, causing the coke in the bottle to burst out. Diet coke works the best.

4.Coca-Cola can be used to help cure jellyfish stings.

5.Coca-Cola can also be used as a cleaning solution, cleaning anything from rusty pans to dirty toilets. It can also be used to remove odor.

6.If you accidentally got gum in your hair, rinse it in coca-cola and the gum will come of very easily.

7.Coca-Cola usually have the phrase “Original Formula” near the bottom of their cans/bottles, but it is not actually “original”, since in 1985, a portion of the sugar in Coca-Cola was removed and replaced by high fructose corn syrup, causing an altered taste as well as causing the coke to become unhealthy.

Coca- Cola was sold March 29. In celebration of my favorite drink we had Coke Floats!

A little ice cream and some coke...

And you have a great idea!

Bubble Gum Experiment

The second week of March is celebrated with National Bubble Gum week. The 3rd/4th graders celebrated this even by conducting a bubble gum experiment. We tested 3 types of gum.

Extra was sugar free, Trident had 40% less sugar, and Bubble Yum had a great amount of sugar.

We started off testing each piece to see if it made us thirsty and if we could blow bubbles with each type of gum.

Even Mrs. Mathes and Jesse started off trying hard to blow bubbles with the sugar free gum!

Denis and Angelika found success with the Trident gum.

Jesse enjoyed the Trident gum better than the Extra.
Cole and Ian enjoyed the Bubble Yum cotton candy one the best. The whole class told me that they could blow the best and the biggest bubbles with the sugary gum.
Megan in the process of blowing a bubble. It is a lot of hard work!!
Tristan chewing his gum. I think that he liked chewing the gum more than blowing bubbles!!
